Coursework

Students who wish to major in biochemistry should meet with chemistry department faculty advisors as soon as possible to plan programs that match their academic interests and career goals.

A student choosing history of science as a minor program must complete 20 hours of study, including the following courses:

  • HSC 201 - The Scientific Revolution
  • HSC 202 - The Technological Revolution
  • HSC 399 - Readings in the History of Science

You will work with an advisor to select additional courses from humanities, social science and science departments. Independent studies are encouraged. History of Science is not a teachable minor.

Students who are accepted into the program will take courses in the AHS general emphasis and use up to a maximum of 12 credits as a substitution for the required minor. The students must complete the following M.A.T. courses their senior year:

  • ATH 506 - Intervention and Referral
  • ATH 510 - Foundational Concepts and Techniques in Athletic Training
  • ATH 514 - Assessment and Evaluation
  • ATH 521 - Athletic Training Clinical I

Students in this program must follow all general education requirements as defined in the catalog and complete a minimum 120 credits total toward their degree; visit the online catalog for detailed course requirements. This could include credits transferred in from their A.A.S. degree or other prior coursework at an accredited institution. An additional 24 credits earned through prior learning assessment (PLA) could also be applied to their degree. Due to transfer and experiential credit differences between students, the time to graduation will be unique for each student. Students are required to earn their final 30 credits at Grand Valley State University. This program is exempted from the university's 58 credits from a four-year institution rule. All other relevant policies apply.

The AHS-HPD degree at Grand Valley State University requires 120 credits to graduate. Up to 80 A.S./A.A.S. credits can apply toward earning Bachelor of Science degree in Allied Health Sciences. The student must earn 40 credits at the senior level institution, of which 30 credits must be completed at Grand Valley. Transferability of credit is done on an individual basis through transcript evaluation.

Upon admission to GVSU, students should complete the AHS-HPD application for the program to determine eligibility.

The study plans for the combined B.S.E./M.S.E. program are very aggressive and academically demanding. Undergraduate students maintaining a GPA of 3.3 through their junior year are encouraged to apply for the program. For more information, please contact the graduate program director.
