All undergraduate students begin their academic career on the Allendale Campus. Students in this major continue their upper division studies downtown on the Robert C. Pew Grand Rapids Campus.	All undergraduate students begin their academic career at Grand Valley's Allendale Campus; classes for graduate students in this major meet downtown on the GVSU Health Campus, near the Grand Rapids Medical Mile. Students are strongly encouraged to work with their faculty advisor to ensure all undergraduate and graduate requirements are met. Students will choose one of two available emphasis options - health promotion or epidemiology - to complete their public health graduate curriculum. Topics include evidence-based practice for teaching literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies as well as facilitation of positive classroom environments, culturally responsive pedagogy, and foundations of special education. Courses are paired with robust clinical field experiences. Completion of an additional 15 credits will fulfill the requirements for a Master in Education, Instruction and Curriculum - Elementary Education. An application for the GTC program, available from the College of Education and Community Innovation, is due by November 1. An additional application for admission to the College of Education and Community Innovation must be submitted by January 15. The $30 nonrefundable application fee is waived if the applicant has previously applied to GVSU.
Career Options	The M.S.W. prepares you for advanced professional practice in more than 100 careers working with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. The most common occupations include substance use and recovery treatment counselor, mental health therapist, medical social worker, school social worker, adoption and foster care supervisor, program coordinator or director, policy analyst, and community advocate. They also predict 3.2 million new wage and salary healthcare jobs between 2018 and 2028. Graduates can be found the fields of global and environmental health, health management and education, epidemiology, research, government agencies, advocacy, and public policy.
