Current GVSU Adult Learners
Morgan Polsgrove

What inspired you to begin or return to school, and how did
you decide to pursue your current major/program or degree?
I have always wanted to be a teacher since I was a kid. It was
time to follow my dream.
What challenges have you faced as an adult learner, and how
have you overcome (or working on overcoming) them?
I struggle the most with the guilt of still be in school. I have
been on my college journey since 2018. That's a long time. While I
struggle with this feeling everyday, I know that I will get my degree.
How has balancing outside commitments such as work and family
impacted your studies, and what strategies have helped you succeed?
Balancing outside commitments is hard. It is only going to get
harder as I approach my capstone and my internship. The best thing I
can do to help with these challenges is allow others to help me.
What has been the most rewarding part of your educational
journey so far?
The most rewarding part of my journey has been making the Dean's List.
What advice would you give to other adults considering going
back to school but feeling uncertain or hesitant?
My advice to other adult learners is to do it. Go back to school.
Get a degree. Go for your dream job. Samuel L. Jackson didn't get a
role in movie until he was in his forties. Barack Obama was in his
forties when he became president of the United States. Susan Boyle was
in her forties when she became an overnight musical sensation. It's
never too late.
