What is your current position and what do you find exciting about it?

As an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology , I lead a research group dedicated to uncovering the biochemical and cellular mechanisms that regulate nucleotide metabolism. By understanding these fundamental processes, we strive to identify new therapeutic strategies that target human diseases. Every day, we get one step closer towards the next breakthrough, and I am continually inspired by the ingenuity and dedication of my group.  Our successes have led to invitations to present our work across the United States and around the world. These opportunities not only allow us to share our discoveries but also to engage with and learn from other scientists. Many of these interactions have sparked collaborations that have refined our working hypotheses and methodological approaches. But most importantly, my position allows me to mentor the next generation of scientists, engineers, and medical professionals, where I am able to pass on the same guidance and passion for discovery that I received at Grand Valley.

How did your GVSU Chemistry/Biochemistry degree help you prepare for your position?

My love for biochemistry was ignited during my undergraduate studies at Grand Valley. The rigorous curriculum, including special topics classes and hands-on research training, provided me a solid foundation that continues to guide me today.
