Student wins third prize in Opera Grand Rapids Collegiate Vocal Competition

Grand Valley student Andrea Fleming took third place at the Opera
Grand Rapids Collegiate Vocal Competition held April 22.
Nine finalists from area colleges and universities participated
in the competition, hosted by Aquinas College. The event provided the
opportunity to perform and be recognized for excellence by a
professional opera company, and win cash awards ranging from $100-$250
for the top three winners. The first and second place winners were
both from Hope College.
Fleming, a senior from Holt, is a double major in music and
math. For the competition finals, she selected to perform an operatic
aria from Leonard Bernstein’s “Trouble in Tahiti.” While performing
the piece, Fleming not only showcased her powerful voice, but also
interjected some personality. View the winners' performances here.
