GVSU telethon to benefit Relay for Life

Students from three student-run campus media organizations are
teaming up to host a live telethon to raise money for Relay for Life
at Grand Valley State University.
Grand Valley Television (GVTV), the Grand Valley Lanthorn, and
Whale Radio are hosting the “Lakers for a Cure Telethon” Thursday,
March 26, from 7-9 p.m. in Area 51 located in the lower level of the
Kirkhof Center on the Allendale Campus.
The event will include music, comedy stand-up, and more all
performed by Grand Valley students. Guest speakers who have been
affected by cancer, as well as representatives from Colleges Against
Cancer, will also be present.
Donations will be collected throughout the day on the main level
of the Kirkhof Center. Sean O’Melia, GVTV public relations coordinator
and sophomore broadcasting major, said this event hits close to home,
which is why he hopes those in attendance will feel the desire to donate.
“Having family members in my life who have suffered from cancer,
I know how difficult and troubling the experience can be,” O’Melia
said. “I would say this event is a win-win for everyone, and that’s
what makes this event really special.”
