Hollywood costume concept artist to discuss film, fashion and art with GVSU panel
Los Angeles-based costume concept artist, Phillip Boutte Jr., has created costume concepts for blockbuster films, such as "X-Men: Days of Future Past," "Man of Steel," "Star Trek," "Hunger Games: Catching Fire" and "Inception." Boutte will discuss the intersection of film, fashion and art during a panel discussion at Grand Valley on November 8. Grand Valley student organization connects young students to animation profession through community project
Grand Valley students and faculty members are spreading the wonders of animation to local middle school students while solving the needs of local community partners. Members of Animator�s Guild, a student organization at Grand Valley, mentored 20 seventh- and eighth-grade students from North Park Montessori Academy in Grand Rapids as they created multiple stop-motion animation videos for Kent County Friend of the Court. The animations will help educate the community about the organization and its services.

Professor educates about a common, but overlooked artistic process through new book
A new book produced by a Grand Valley professor is aiming to introduce readers around the world to a common artistic practice that produces many objects people use every day, including toilet seats, car parts and plumbing tubes. GVSU students, faculty to compete in ArtPrize Nine
Three square miles of downtown Grand Rapids transform into an arts epicenter for 19 days each fall during ArtPrize, the world's largest open, independently organized international art competition. During this year's competition, taking place September 20-October 8, multiple Grand Valley students and faculty will display their work while competing for a piece of the more than $500,000 in prizes.

Laker designs and crafts commemorative pins for former women governors
Former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm and several other former governors from across the U.S. attended the first-ever Conference for U.S. Women Governors September 8-9 at Grand Valley. All of the 12 governors in attendance were presented with a special, commemorative pin that was designed and crafted by Emma Hoekstra, a Grand Valley senior who is majoring in jewelry and metalsmithing.

23rd annual Summer Film, "For the Birds," wraps production
The 23rd annual Summer Film Project wrapped production on July 28 after two weeks of filming at various locations around West Michigan. Since 1994, the Summer Film Project has provided students with the opportunity to work alongside industry professionals while producing a feature length film. This year's crew consisted of more than 25 Grand Valley students, faculty, and professionals along with six professional actors from Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, and West Michigan.
